Beach Review: Ocean Springs Beach
After we did our hike at Fontainebleau Nature Trail, we took the kids down to the beach to play. It wasn't warm enough to swim, but the weather was nice and the sand was fun. There were very few people there and a wide expanse of beach.
We parked down near the Ocean Springs Yacht Club and walked along the beach. The Yacht Club was pretty deserted in December, with just a few cars in the parking lot, likely for people eating lunch, but in the summer they have a pool and offer sailing lessons for kids and adults and I imagine it gets busy. We didn't park in their parking lot, but there's street parking all along that stretch of beach. There's also a port-a-potty. We didn't need to use it, but it was good to know it was there.
There's a wall between the street and the beach, so there was an easy barrier to tell the kids to keep to their side of the wall. This way we didn't have to worry about anyone getting run over by a car. The bridge also made for some great pictures. You can see the yacht club in this photo, behind the bridge...and see that there is literally no one else in the vicinity.
Our kids had a great time playing in the sand with sticks they found, though they wished they had beach toys. We found a stick that looked like a dog from a certain angle.
Since we’ll be heading back to Florida and spending a reasonable amount of time on beaches, we’ll likely invest in a plastic bucket, shovels, and maybe a net to scoop things up with.
Even though it wasn’t nearly warm enough to swim, it was warm enough for us all to leave our shoes in the car to walk in the sand. Some of the houses on the other side of the street and up a slight hill were just beautiful.
Further down, where there wasn’t a hill, the houses were up on stilts that close to the beach.
