Yoder's Homestead Market

Food Review Feb 06, 2021

By this time, everyone was hungry. There’s no food or other stores actually on the Natchez Trace National Parkway, so we left the Trace and went to Yoder’s Homestead Market to pick up lunch. You take Tennessee Highway 20 then turn left and head to 3555 Summertown Highway to find it. The shop and deli are family-owned and operated and part of the Amish and Mennonite community that’s just to the east of the Meriwether Lewis stop.

The deli served a variety of sandwiches. I had the reuben while Vagish and the kids went for the daily special, a ham and Amish butter cheese sandwich with tea and chips.

These were fantastic sandwiches. They bake all their own bread, and it’s fabulous. There were a few tables inside, so you could eat there, but no one was. This is a popular place and we saw a lot of other customers, though it never got crowded.

In addition to the sandwiches, I bought some baked goods for later. They had a whole shelf of buy one get one free baked goods, so I bought more than I really should have. Two big plates of cinnamon rolls for I think $3.50 and two loaves of bread (one sundried tomato and cheese and the other jalapeno and cheese) for $1.50.

The bread was a little dry, which was probably why it was for sale, and the kids wouldn’t touch it. The tomato bread actually didn’t work that well with peanut butter sandwiches, which is what I was using it for. The cinnamon rolls, though, were amazing. And we had so many we heated them up and ate them cold depending on where we were for about a week, and they were always delicious.

The shop sells a lot of other things as well. The one that most intrigued me was the pie fillings. They had shelf after shelf of large plastic bags containing different pie fillings, some of which looked more appetizing than others, though I’m sure they were all delicious once baked into a pie.

I highly recommend Yoder’s Homestead Market for lunch and baked goods. It was really reasonably priced and offered delicious and filling food only 5 minutes off the Natchez Trace National Parkway.
